Urgent Request for a Home
We have a very urgent need for a home for two of our abandoned strays, namely Mary and Joseph.
I first saw Mary and Joseph wandering cold and starving in the middle of an urbanization just outside Lloret de Mar last April.
They were in quite a dangerous spot- where all the traffic has to pass through. Mary was also obviously in season as every male dog in the area was visiting her.
I tried to get near to them, but they would run- sometimes into the path of oncoming traffic so all I could do was to put food down for them.
There is a bar and a shop near where they were abandoned. I know the owner of the bar called the local dog pound, and I know of at least three people living on the urbanization who also called them. I know also of another concerned person who called the police.
The town hall of Lloret de Mar, and the dog pound of Tossa de Mar being their usual inept selves, did nothing.
As they were getting more accustomed to me feeding them they were getting closer. One night it was cold and pouring with rain- Mary had been lying on a piece of rubbish bag that had fallen out of a nearby bin. They were soaking wet, and starving as usual. However that night I left the food in the van and walked away. They jumped in to get the food and I shut the door.
They had to stay in the van as I had nowhere to take them. However they seemed quite happy to be there- at least they had blankets to lie on, food and were dry.
I had a few days earlier called Isobel at the Tossa de Mar refuge (not to be confused with the dog pound) to tell her of their plight and she said if I were able to get hold of them to take them to the refuge.
The following morning I drove to Tossa Refuge but iIsobel had left to take some dogs to Germany and I was turned away- there was no room at the inn.
I had no choice but to drive them back to Lloret. As I had 4 dogs and 2 cats and was living in a trailer at the time, there was no way I could take them home, but I knew of a remote place nearby where the owners were away and only came for the summer months. I could see no other option but to put them on this property without permission.
I unfortunately had to have Mary spayed although I knew she was carrying puppies. There are simply too many unwanted animals here to contemplate any alternative.
I was able over the next few weeks to get a run built where the dogs spent the next 4 months. They did at least have each other and seemed quite happy.
They put on weight and began to look well.

Joseph
Kate and I decided to bring them to the UK three months ago, although they would have to spend three months in quarantine, we felt it would be better for them, as the weather was beginning to get cold here and they had no heating or comforts in the run.
We also felt that there would be a better chance of finding a home for them if people could go and visit them in the kennels, rather than just seeing photos of them.

Mary
They are due to be released from the West Sussex quarantine kennels at the end of January, but we are no nearer to finding a home for them than when they were found.
If you think you could give Joseph and Mary a home please call Kate urgently on 07910531909.

Hi, I am interested in giving a home to either Mary or Joseph but had a few questions. Do you know if they are ok with children?, Do you know their approximate age? And also what is the procedure I would need to follow if I was interested in giving them a loving home? Sorry to ask so much!

Hi Sharon, thanks so much for enquiring.
As far as I know, Mary and Joseph were released from quarantine today.
We were lucky that we found a good home for them both- though unfortunately not together. We do not know if they are siblings, but it seems to be very likely- they have probably been together since birth, but we believe we would not have been lucky have found a home for them both together- they would have been too much of a handful for a new owner, and we could not afford to keep them any longer in boarding kennels, which of course it not optimal for them either.
Mary will be going to live with Stephen in London, and Joseph has a home in the country with Dee and his family.
I will speak to Kate tomorrow (she is in the UK, I am in Spain) and find out if everything went well, and do an update on them.
I will also write a post with instructions if anyone would like to make enquiries about adopting another of our Spanish strays.
Best wishes
Debbie
